  • Contemporary

HSCD is the first school in Hastings and East Sussex to have offered Rambert Grades; we have Grades 1-8 as well as primary and pre primary levels. Contemporary dance uses the whole body focusing on contraction, release, spirals, floor work and improvisation. Dancer will learn about Graham and Cunningham technique as well as taking Rambert Grades.

Rambert Grades is a new holistic training, promoting transferable skills, and developing the whole individual. It's inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of ability and prior experience. It inspires creativity and encourages dancers to make choices and develop their own interpretation of movement.

Find out more by visiting our Rambert Grades pages.

  • Progressing Contemporary Technique (PBT/PCT)

HSCD is the only school in East Sussex to offer PCT!

Progressing Contemporary Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels. The program helps with injury prevention and rehabilitation and enhances the ability of athletes to perform at their best.

  • Ballet & Pointe

At HSCD we see our Ballet lessons like company classes. We wanted to branch away from the many ballet syllabi out there and instead give students a ballet lesson that complements their training. Ballet is a fundamental technique; it is the root of all dance styles and is a great place to form a solid dance foundation. Ballet takes time and dedication, it also brings strength, flexibility, co-ordination and musicality. Pointe work at HSCD is available, however we will approach you when we feel a student is ready to go en pointe.

  • Acrobatic Arts & Preschool Acro

We teach from the Acrobatic Arts syllabus who have created the worlds most trusted acro program! Acrobatic Art is essential two skills in one program - the art of dance and the skills of acrobatics. This amazing program is based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in five divisions of AcroDance: Flexibility, Strength, Balance, Limbering and Tumbling. Dancers who take acro lessons can start from our preschool level all the way up to advanced. At each level, students will be given progression cards allowing them to keep track of goals and what they are working towards.

Students who start training in AcroDance become stronger, more flexible and like any type of dance, is a great form of self-expression, building self-confidence and learning social skills. AcroDance can be one of the most challenging of techniques, which is why this subject will bring great sense of achievement as students gain new skills.
