About Us

“It’s what I always wanted to do, to show the laughter, the fun and the joy of dance.” Martha Graham.

We are proud to be the only specialist contemporary dance school in our area and to be the first school in Hastings and East Sussex to offer Rambert Grades! At HSCD our aim is to encourage and inspire a new generation of dancer. Dancers who are not a clone of their class mates, but creative independent thinkers, ready to expand boundaries.

Our school has always been based three main pillars.

  • Encouragement

  • Positivity

  • Mental wellbeing & Support

We are a non competitive school! We believe you don’t need to compete with others to become a great dancer! As Bob Fosse said “If you think you can do better, then do better. Don’t compete with anyone; just yourself.”

Students who enrol with us train in a safe and friendly environment, with teachers who go above and beyond to ensure students are nurtured and achieve their fullest potential.

Founded in 1978 by Choreographer and Laban trained dancer Sue Marshall, our school has over 40 years experience teaching generations of dancers. As a school, we provide professional training in a range of techniques, creating a diverse and creative dancer. HSCD provides equal opportunities and welcomes anyone with an interest in movement and dance, whatever their gender or ability. Everyone has the opportunity to express themselves within their own range and to experiment with creative choreography.

We are unbelievable proud of all our students who train with us at HSCD. Below are just some of the places our students have gone onto after leaving us to study dance further.
